Expanding on the family’s 25-year landscaping and sod history, Kristian Vergara took on the challenge of starting a sod distribution center in the east coast of Florida. Over the past 10 years our focus has been on growing quality varieties of sod while maintaining a competitive advantage on the market. We pride ourselves on being knowledgeable about providing sod that caters to each customer’s specific needs. Sparing no expense by hiring top agronomists around the country to ensure our product has the necessary chemicals and fertilizers to provide the best service to our customers.
Not only do we pride ourselves on providing expert workmanship with high quality sod, but we acknowledge that your residential and commercial projects are a major investment and want you to feel comfortable with your decision. Once our team receives your order, we begin to cut fresh sod out of the field, either in the morning or afternoon, and provide well-timed delivery at your job site. In addition, when you order sod from us online, you’ll be kept informed of your status via text or email and receive information from our office the day before delivery.
At Vergara and Sons our mission is to provide the best quality turf grass at the lowest prices in the market. We are a family owned business comprised of knowledgeable staff of professionals ready to assist and most importantly build healthy relationships with our customers.
1. Test the Soil: Most turf grasses will thrive in well-aerated soil with a pH between 6 and 7.5. Obtain a soil test kit from your local extension office. Gather soil samples from several places around the area you'll be sodding. After you mic the soil, place it into a testing bag and expect to pay at least $15 for the test. Plan accordingly, and don't complete your soil test the day before the sod arrives.
2. Measure the Area You'll be Sodding: take careful measurements so that you don't pay for more sod than you need. However, order around 5% extra (over the measured area), so you have enough sod to cut and fit around curves.
3. Dig Organic Matter into Soil: Using a rototiller, loosen the soil depth around 6 to 8 inches. Remove any debris you unearth, including rocks. Add and till in 2 to 3 inches of organic matter. As a result, the organic matter will help improve the soil aeration and water retention which enhances the microbial population in your soil.
4. Rake Soil Level: Ensure that you rake the soil level one inch below the grade of sprinkler heads or paved areas. Raking creates loose soil particles, which promote healthy grass roots. The soil needs to be moist when you lay the sod. Water it well 24 to 48 hours before installation.
Q: How many square feet per pallet?
A: 500 square feet
Q: How fast can you ensure a delivery from date of order?
A: Depending on the time you place the order, but same day delivery is available.
Q: Should I water sod once its been laid?
A: Yes, frequently throughout the first week.
Q: Is seeding cheaper than sodding?
A: A bag of seed will cost less than a pallet of sod but that's like comparing the cost of raw wool to a fine sweater. Our sod is a finished product that will provide nearly instant use, beauty, and environmental benefits. In contrast, seed requires two or more years of attention, water, fertilizers and pesticides to reach maturity.
Q: What can I do to maintain a beautiful lawn?
A: Quality sod simply needs water, air, sunlight and nutrients. Infrequent and deep watering encourages deep roots and a healthy lawn.
